“Why don’t you offer sedation options?”
Sedation dentistry refers to using medications to help patients relax during dental procedures. This is achieved by different methods, such as oral medication (a pill), inhaled medication (nitrous oxide, or “laughing gas”), or IV (intravenous). All three methods have their place within sedation dentistry; however, not all dentists choose to provide this option in an office setting.
We choose not to offer this option, as we have found success in treating our patients in a calm, compassionate environment – while building in extra time to allow the patient to become acclimated and comfortable.
We are often asked why we do not offer sedation for our special needs patients. As stated above, we have had much success in non-sedation visits. That said, for those patients whose care is not able to be safely achieved in an office setting, Dr. Hull has credentials at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, where dental care can be completed in one visit under general anesthesia.
