WHY DO MY GUMS BLEED?
Bleeding gums are NOT normal and can be present for a variety of reasons. Some common causes are:
**Poor home care
**Gingivitis
**Underlying medical conditions
**Medications, such as blood thinners
**Pregnancy
HOW DOES PREGNANCY CAUSE GINGIVITIS?
Due to rising and fluctuating hormones, even if you didn't have gingivitis before pregnancy, it is not uncommon for a woman to develop this during pregnancy. Although it is more commonly seen in the 2nd and 3rd trimester, pregnancy-related gingivitis can develop at any point and may even continue after delivery, until hormones return to normal levels.
IF YOU HAVE BLEEDING GUMS, VISIT YOUR DENTIST TO FIND OUT WHY.
Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease, in which your gums may become swollen, tender and bleed during brushing. Let untreated, gingivitis may progress into more advanced stages of gum disease, which can result in tooth loss. The inflammation caused by periodontal disease does not just affect your mouth - it can affect your whole body - and has been linked with other serious health issues and concerns such as stroke, heart disease, and diabetes.
